Medical Needs

At Queensbury Academy we support students with a range of medical needs and work closely with Health Care professionals and parents to provide the best possible care.

We have an identified first aid room in the Central Building and a number of staff have first aid certificates. Students with more complex medical needs have Individual Health Care Plans which detail the areas of concern and provide care information in more detail.

It is a parental responsibility to inform the Academy of their child’s medical needs, and we request the Medical Information Form below is used to inform us as appropriate.

Medication can only be administered to students if a Consent to Administer Medicines form is signed (also below) and it would be detrimental to the pupil's health not to administer the medication during the school day.

Please return all forms to Central reception.

Both our Administering Medicines and Supporting Pupils with Medical Needs policy, and our Asthma policy can be found in the policies section of our website.

New First Aid and Medication Notification System

We are pleased to let you know that Queensbury has introduced a new system for recording and communicating first aid and the administration of medication using Bromcom.

From now on, you will receive notifications via the My Child At School (MCAS) app whenever your child receives first aid or medication during the school day. In some cases, you may also receive an email with further details, including guidance on what to monitor and when to seek medical support.

In the event of a more serious incident, we will continue to contact parents and carers directly. If we are unable to reach you, we will try your designated emergency contacts. Please ensure that the school has your up-to-date contact details.

Our normal processes for parental consent remain unchanged: no medication will be given without the appropriate permission.

We would also like to remind all parents and carers to download the My Child At School (MCAS) app and enable notifications on your device. Notifications about first aid or medicines will appear under the Student Events section of the app.

If you have any questions or need help setting up the app, please speak to a member of staff who will be happy to assist you.
